Repair price list: how to build one and what to charge
Updated 20 October 2026 · 2 min read
Without a price list every quote is a negotiation, and two customers with the same fault pay different amounts. A simple list saves time, avoids arguments and tells you whether you are making money. It does not need to be long: the repairs you do every week are enough.
1. Start from what it costs you
For each job add the part, the time you spend and a share of the fixed costs (rent, tools, electricity). A competitor's price is a reference, not your cost: if your part costs more or you take twice as long, copying it means working at a loss.
Your time has a value. If a screen replacement takes forty minutes, that time goes into the price even when the part is cheap.
2. Which items to include
- The most frequent repairs for each type of device: screen, battery, charging connector, motherboard, cleaning, software restore.
- A line for the diagnosis, even if free, so customers know whether it is included.
- A price for «other work» to agree after the check.
- Devices other than phones if you repair them: computers, consoles and appliances have different times and costs.
3. «From» prices and price bands
Many models cost differently for the same fault. Instead of one price per model, use bands (for example budget, mid-range, premium) or write «from» and the lowest price, confirming the exact figure in the quote.
Avoid promising a fixed price before you have seen the device: the real fault can differ from the one described.
4. The diagnosis: free, paid or credited
Pick a rule and write it on the receipt. Many shops do not charge for the diagnosis if the customer accepts the repair, and charge a modest amount if the quote is refused. Whatever rule you choose, apply it to everyone.
5. Keep it up to date
- Review prices when the cost of parts changes: every three months is a good rhythm.
- Check which jobs you sell most: those are the ones where the price matters most.
- Note how long it has been since an item changed: a price unchanged for a year is probably old.
A price list you actually use
A price list only helps if it is at hand when you write the quote. Repair shop software such as Fixverso starts from a ready-made list with the typical jobs for each kind of device: you adjust it to your prices and, when you make a quote, you pick the item and the amount fills in by itself.
